With “Dubbylon Soldier“, the Cologne-based producer Dexter Dub presents his third album. This album is dedicated to the genre of Dub and gives different approaches to it.

“Dubbylon Soldier“ consits of nine tracks, all produced by Dexter Dub with different additional vocal and instrumental features. Every digitally produced track is enriched by at least one physically played instrument and some also feature a vocal artist. Apart from that Dexter Dub has been digging in his crates and found special and unique instruments to play on, such as different mini-keyboards and -pianos or childrens instruments.

The tracks on the album all have central features of Dub music, such as heavy bass lines and sounds dubbing into space, but each one tries to establish his own concept. The pieces do have different moods, tempi and are rooted in different cultural backgrouds. There are tracks like “Dubbylon Soldier“, the title track, with a touch of Dub in the classical sense of Reggae, but there is also “Viva La Revolucion“ with a latin-american flavour, “Sternengeschwader“ in an 8-bit style and more.

For this album Dexter Dub works together with Pelican, a vocal artist born and raised in Kingston (Ja) who does the vocals for “Dubbylon Soldier“ and “Jonny Dub“. Also he works with Ac Akut, a multi-talented musician from Cologne, who plays the Didgeridoo on “Meditation Dub“ and the melodica as well as the claves on “Viva La Revolucion“. Other featured artists are the unknown and mysterious singer Commander Cheesecake who sings “Sternengeschwader“, Jules who plays the trumpet on “Dubbylon Sodier“, R.J. who plays the udu on “Cosmic Fly Dub“ and Daniel Garcia González who can be heard on “Viva La Revolucion“. Sein zweites Album „Earritation“ hat der Kölner Produzent, DJ und Remixer Dexter Dub fast ausschließlich dem Dubstep gewidmet. Er interpretiert das Genre eigenwillig, mit massivem Sound, aber auch melodiös und dadurch, dass seine Stücke eine Geschichte erzählen, gehen sie über einfache Clubsounds hinaus.

Während der Zeit der Albumproduktion hat Dexter Dub mit Sängern und MC’s aus den unterschiedlichsten Ländern zusammengearbeitet. Auf dem Album sind daher Kollaborationen mit Daman aus Paris, King Smitt & Terence Paul aus Amerika, Jamo Moja und Chryzla MC aus Köln zu hören.

Das Album ist auf 300 Stück limitiert und die CD ist verpackt in einem handgefertigtem Karton, der von Hand gestempelt wurde.

Im Spätsommer 2008 veröffentlichte Dexter Dub seine erste Single auf Vinyl, 2010 folgte dann sein erstes Album „Dexter’s Dub Dimension“, das er auf CD und als digitalen Download veröffentlicht hat. Auf den ersten drei Compilations des Heidelberger Netlabels Subbass ist er mit jeweils einem Track vertreten. Zusammen mit AC Akut erschien Dexter Dub auf der ersten Basspräsidium Compiliation und dem 7. Jülich Sampler (hier unter dem Namen I'n'C).

Dexter Dub hält nicht viel von Eindimensionalität. Er ist geprägt von seiner 15jährigen Erfahrung als DJ, Vinyl-Junkie und Produzent. In seinen Anfängen als DJ I.R.S. ONE war er ganz dem Hip Hop verpflichtet. Durch seine weit reichende Musiksammelleidenschaft wurde Dexter Dub aber ebenso durch Beat, Funk, Soul, Disco, Rare Groove, Electro, Big Beat, Lounge, Reggae, Dancehall und Balkanmusik beeinflusst.

Das Debut-Album vom Kölner Produzenten, Remixer und DJ Dexter Dub hält was der Titel verspricht. Es nimmt den Hörer mit auf die Reise durch eine Welt von Jungle über Drum’n’Bass, vorbei an sphärischen Dubklängen und geschmeidigen Electrobeats, bis hin zu Dubstep. Dexter Dub spielt dabei gerne mit den bekannten Genrekonventionen, wandelt sie jedoch um in seinen ganz eigenen Stil, den er als Dubbeat bezeichnet.

Alle Stücke sind im eigenen Studio Nippes Home Productions produziert. Viele der Instrumente spielt der Autodidakt selber ein, was einen zusätzlichen Live-Charakter seines Albums ausmacht und ebenso stammen viele der Gesangsaufnahmen von ihm. Dexter Dub arbeitet jedoch nicht immer allein, sondern erhält Unterstützung von AC Akut (mehr als nur) am Didgeridoo und auch von Chaliss Butto, Kindread sowie Ronny Trettmann am Mikrofon.

Der Sound seines Albums kommt erst recht freundlich daher, später ist er düster und treibend.
Er schiebt und knarzt, ist aufgelockert mit loungigen und harmonischen Melodien, nur um dann experimentierfreudig und humorvoll neue Bass-Landschaften zu entdecken. Dexter Dub vereint dabei krude Samples und seltene Instrumente wie Didgeridoo, Melodica oder Heimorgel-Klänge.
Die musikalischen Kurztrips sind vielfältig und gehen nach Jamaika, Australien, Ungarn und wieder zurück zu seiner Heimatstadt Köln. Dieser Hochburg elektronischer Musik widmet er mit Cologne is on Fire seine ganz eigene Hommage.

Im Spätsommer 2008 veröffentlichte Dexter Dub bereits seine erste Single auf Vinyl. Das Stück Behold erscheint nun auch auf seinem Album, allerdings in einer neuen Album-Version. Dem unabhängigen Label Basspräsidium Records bleibt Dexter Dub treu und ergänzt ihren facettenreichen Sound um eine weitere Dimension.

Dexter Dub hält nicht viel von Eindimensionalität. Er ist geprägt von seiner mehr als 10jährigen Erfahrung als DJ, Vinyl-Junkie und Produzent. In seinen Anfängen als DJ I.R.S. ONE war er ganz dem Hip Hop verpflichtet. Durch seine weit reichende Musiksammelleidenschaft wurde Dexter Dub aber ebenso durch Beat, Funk, Soul, Disco, Rare Groove, Electro, Big Beat, Lounge, Reggae, Dancehall und Balkanmusik beeinflusst.

Ab jetzt heißt es jedoch: die Zeiten des Dubbeats sind angebrochen. Gute Reise durch Dexter’s Dub Dimension!

Mit seinem ersten Release auf Basspräsidium Records macht der Kölner Produzent, Remixer und DJ Dexter Dub deutlich, wofür sein Herz besonders schlägt: Ragga-Jungle und Drum n Bass.

Die straighten Drums bei Behold und Dub Mi Ya Choppa sind aufgelockert mit klassischen Dub- und Reggae-Elementen, treibenden Bläsern oder verdubbten Gitarren. Die melodischen Reggae-Vocals werden von Kindread sowie von Johnny Osbourne beigesteuert.

Die Maxi ist ein erster Vorgeschmack auf Dexter Dubs Album Dexter’s Dub Dimension, das im Januar 2010 auch auf Basspräsidium Records, allerdings als CD, erscheinen wird. Auf dem Album ist Behold nochmals vertreten, jedoch in einem neuen Album-Remix.

Auf dem Longplayer werden neben Jungle und Drum n Bass auch Dubstep-Tunes, elektronisch Verwandtes sowie noch mehr musikalische Kooperationen zu hören sein. So watch out for Dexter’s Dub Dimension.

This is the follow up to the highly appreciated first release of the compilation series issued by the Subbass label. Started recently with the “Subbass – Dubstep Made in Germany” issue the second release just lines up straight to that.

Again is tried to give an insight to the contemporary production standards concerning heavy bass music in Germany. The amazing and vast diversity of styles should convince the listener to see “Dubstep” as a phenomenon not only impacting in full effect inthe UK, but runs rampant global. Heavy Bass Music is rooting down internationally and by that breeding a new reception of dancefloor-music and music in general.

Electronic dancemusic has prospered and diversified the last decades. While in Germany Techno and House music have been the apparent dominating genres appreciated by the clubbers, Breakbeats and D`n`B just got particular attention. Dubstep makes a change and gathers Breakbeat and D`n`B heads, just as HipHop and Reggae socialized blokes and Techno lovers.The media hype on what-so-called Dubstep is not over yet, rather it is still growing. While established media is following the newest step, the most djs and large parts of the audience on a night would more likely cheer up to a ravy and dark halfstep sound, while a more garage or four-to-the-floor orientated tune will keep them dancing in the dawn.
This compilation wants to present some people out of the german dubstep scene.
This compilation can`t and doesn`t want to claim the representation of all the variety produced in Germany.
